In the middle of April 2023, my dad had problems with body coordination and his eyesight but put it down to old age. When others in the family noticed, a brain MRI was undertaken. The results showed a tumour, and he was rushed to hospital. It was April 28, 2023. Subsequent MRI and CT scans with contrast showed that he had a grade 4 glioma brain tumour, an aggressive cancer in the brain. Brain surgery was the way to begin treatment, followed by a regimen of radiation and chemotherapy.
The rude suddenness of the tragedy devastated my family. I am married abroad and my world came crashing down. On April 30, my younger brother left for home to be with our parents. Meanwhile, my dad was told that a pinched nerve in his brain and ear were causing problems. He was incredibly stressed but was put on chemo while doctors waited for his blood pressure and sugar to come under control.
As the month turned, I was desperate to find solutions, researching the problem over the internet. The news was chilling: Life expectancy for such patients was not beyond three months to a year. It left me heart broken. I was sleepless and prayed to God for a miracle to bless my dad.
One such night when I had gone to sleep after praying to God, I had a dream vision. I saw a bright yellow shawl, beautifully embroidered and folded, and found myself bowing my head to it. The following morning when I called my family, I learnt the surgery was delayed yet again because dad's condition was not stable. In the middle of the day, I recalled my dream and decided to search online for a reference. The first thing I came across was Guruji's
swaroop on the internet in a similar yellow
chola. I took assurance that this Guruji will help me through this challenging time. No one in my family had ever seen or heard about Guruji. I took a screenshot of Guruji's–the time on the screen was 1:43–and I began finding the swaroop frequently. I was motivated to search more and came across a
satsang that talked about connecting with Guruji telepathically. I understood that I didn't have to go anywhere. I could pray from my home to Guruji and ask Him to come help my family. As if to bolster my faith, I read a satsang about a tennis player who mentioned how Guruji had helped him fight a grade 4 glioma. I reasoned that these occurrences could not be a coincidence. I knew in my heart that Guruji is the one who'd help us out.
I phoned my husband, narrated the sequence of events and got him to buy a yellow
dupatta to honour Guruji. I called my family too, repeated the narrative to my mom and sister and asked my mom to get some money out in Guruji's name, so that they could buy a yellow chola or shawl for Guruji and take it to His
ashram. I had no clue about how to proceed and did whatever came to my mind. My mom did what I asked and prayed to Guruji to help us through these times.
A few hours after Mom's prayers, doctors said they were going to operate the following morning, which was May 3
rd. In two days, Guruji had changed the course of events. Doctors prepared us for surgery lasting about six to eight hours, cautioning us that my dad could go on to a ventilator or to the ICU after surgery. My mom, who was always by my dad's side, had a vision before the surgery. She saw Guru Nanak Devji and Guru Gobind Singhji standing on both sides of my dad's bed. When I talked to her a couple of hours later, she told me about it and was reassured that everything will turn out right.
Waiting outside the OT, my mom had another vision: Someone put a beautifully decorated
thaal (plate) with some green peas before her and asked her to take it ("
le farh hun"). At the same time, one of the surgeons came out of the OT and reported that they had taken out the tumour and were closing up. Dad was responding very well and would go directly to the recovery room. It was unbelievable! The surgery had taken only four hours from the get-go to his going to the recovery room. Jai Guruji!
Dad was kept in the hospital for a further nine days and discharged on May 12.
In retrospect, I believe Guruji has been helping us even before we had encountered this problem. Here is how. My younger brother had gone to India in November 2022, a year earlier, and while there he insisted on getting a dog for my parents. A six-week-old Siberian husky was implanted in our parent's lives and my brother came back to Canada in 14
th February. Dad became much attached to Oreo.
As my dad's condition improved in hospital, Oreo's health began declining. On the day Dad was to return home, my brother went ahead to get the place ready. He saw Oreo was not moving and found that he was no more. Our house help told us that he had eaten a lizard while the family was in hospital, but we all knew deep in our hearts that he took my dad's afflictions (
kasht) upon himself. The divine had to grace two beings to save dad from death. On the one hand, Guruji knew that someone in the family was going to go, so He blessed my dad with a new life and, on the other, He took Oreo in His
sharan.
My dad had to go to DMC for a check-up subsequent to the 30-day radiation regimen that was going to start on May 22
nd. On the 21
st, he got Guruji's
prasad thanks to my mother-in-law. She was checking her phone when she found that her friend had posted in social media about Guruji's satsang in my parent's town. I asked my sister to go and attend the satsang and bring
langar prasad for my dad. My connection with Guruji grew stronger. I desperately wanted Guruji to bless my parents with His swaroop which they could keep with themselves at all times. Back home, my parents decided to rent rooms close to the hospital to avoid travelling. They stayed in a paying guest house or PG. When my mom went to the PG's kitchen to cook
khichdi for my dad, she noticed was a big swaroop of Guruji in the PG office. When she checked with the proprietor, he said his wife was Guruji's devotee and that she would visit my mom and dad. When that devotee met my parents, she removed a bracelet of Guruji's from her hand and gave that to my dad. Jai Guruji! I cannot thank her enough for giving those blessings to my dad when he needed them the most. This lady devotee also took my parents to a nearby satsang. My parents were blessed with
jal and langar prasad and beautiful swaroops of Guruji.
My dad has been on chemotherapy for six months and the MRI and CT scans at the three-month period have come clear. He is recovering very well by Guruji's grace. I still have no swaroop of Guruji with me, but I am so relieved that my parents got Guruji's swaroop and that Guruji is blessing them always.
I request Guruji, whose heart only has love for us, to forgive all our bad karmas and keep blessing us always. May Guruji hold us so tight that we are never lost again. With Guruji, every day is a satsang and blessed are those who are Guruji's
sangat. Jai Guruji!
A devotee
